A very funny series of events are occurring between Israel and Turkey that escaped the main stream world..
Turks and Israelis have this overwhelming concept of pride. The political sniping by the highest levels of both countries has been going on for a while. Both sides have done some silly things but today was the funniest of them all. Some private Turkish TV show has a scene about Israelis treating the Gaza people bad etc. So one of the only two democracies in Middle East (Israel) tells the other Middle Eastern democracy (Turkey) to actually sensor and take down this private TV show in a private TV channel. When Turkey refuses, ambassador is called and insulted in Hebrew (which pitifully the ambassador does not understand a word of) while the ambassador is smiling not realizing the fact that he was seated in a lower couch as a matter of childish insult with TV cameras and reporters taking pictures of Foreign minister and his aides looking at the ambassador very rudely.
Now the real funny part of the story: This concept, “insulting another government official by making them sit at a lower seat”, comes from Charlie Chaplin’s comedy classic “The Great Dictator” (1940). Below clip is the hilarious scene where Charlie Chaplin character Hynkel (symbolizing Hitler) is trying to gain a “psychological” advantage over Napoloni (symbolizing Mussolini) by giving him a lower seat.. Now an Israeli Foreign minister copying Hitler (even if from a comedy movie) is not the funniest political oxymoron of all times I donot know what is. Yes, politicians must be children. Enjoy the movie clip below.
